It’s a less invasive form of Knee Surgery which is done through an Arthroscope. Arthroscopy Knee Surgery is helpful in diagnosing and treating problems such as persistent joint pain and stiffness, damaged cartilage, fragments of bone or cartilage and a build-up of fluid.
Ligaments plays an important role in forming the joints. There are multiple ligaments in each joint which come together make joints stable and functional. Many times, due to injury, ligament gets tear and surgery is the only option left to repair. Types of ligament surgery are:
a. ACLACL Reconstruction is the surgery to repair the torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament in the Knee Joint. Injury to ACL joint usually occurs in sports forms. ACL injury is most common among all types of ligament injury. This soft tissue structure can be repaired with a graft and requirement of surgery depends on the patient's activity type, nature of injury and symptoms.
b. PCLPCL is another form of soft tissue Ligament inside the knee joint. This is the strongest ligament is the knee joint and its function is to prevent the posterior translation of the knee. Sharp pain, difficulty bearing weight, and stiffness are all symptoms of a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tear that is the result of an injury.
Medial Collateral Ligament is a major ligament located in the inner part of knee that connects shin and the thigh bone. MCL usually get injured by direct impact on knee that result in over-extension of knee by itself or bending too far in a direction that it’s not supposed to bend. If it doesn’t heal with rehab, surgery is advised.
d. LCLThe lateral collateral ligament is a thin band of tissue running along the outside of the knee. It connects the thighbone (femur) to the fibula. An injury to the lateral collateral ligament of the knee can be caused by a varus stress or hyperextension to the knee joint. If the damage to the LCL is of a higher degree then surgery may be required to repair the damage or to reconstruct the ligament.
e. Multi Ligament ReconstructionMulti ligament knee reconstruction is a surgical procedure for treating multiple ligament injuries of the knee joint which occur because of major trauma. During Multi Ligament Knee Reconstruction surgery, ligaments are reconstructed using a graft taken from the patient (autograft) or donor tissue (allograft).
Cartilage within the knee joint helps protect the joint from the stresses placed on it from walking, running, climbing, and bending. Meniscus is like shock absorbers for the bones. It also helps to keep the knee stable. Any injury or damage which cannot be treated with Medication or Rehab needs surgical intervention.
A knee meniscus repair is a surgical procedure to repair a torn meniscus via keyhole surgery. A torn meniscus is the result of trauma caused by forceful twisting or hyper-flexing of the knee joint. Symptoms of a torn meniscus include knee pain, swelling, popping, and giving way. Sport players who play contact sports like football and hockey are prone to meniscus tears. In the arthroscopic meniscus tear surgery, the surgeon sews torn pieces of cartilage back together so they can heal on their own.
b. Partial MeniscectomyIn this surgery, a piece of the torn meniscus is removed so that knee can function can be normally restored.
